When it comes to marketing it is not only about generating leads.
It is equally important not to drop the ball too soon. Remember
about the "Rule of Seven" when working on converting your
inquiries into sales. You should contact people at least seven
times before expecting that they will really focus on your offer
and decide to take action to acquire whatever it is you're
selling. Of course, it happens quite often that people buy
sooner, but don't bank on that.
In the traditional way of running a business it is very
expensive to stay in touch with a prospect to create those seven
impressions. You need to mail letters and sales literature and
follow up with phone calls. It is both costly and time consuming.
It is also a long process. It can take weeks, sometimes even
months, before you make those seven contacts.
E-mail has changed the game forever.
By employing e-mail effectively, you can stay in touch with a
large number of prospects at practically no cost!
The Internet also allows us to speed up the process considerably.
In the "traditional" world. Now you can accomplish the same three
contacts in the speed of the light. Instead of a brochure, you
send an e-mail and invite the prospect to see your well-organized
web site.
Please remember about these seven contacts before quitting on
your prospects. I am astonished how often people give up on me as
a potential customer after just two or three contacts, while I am
just BEGINNING to seriously consider their product or service.
You cannot stay in touch with people just by launching a website,
no matter how great that site is and no matter how much traffic
it can draw. Why? Because people are simply too busy to come
frequently -- most of your visitors will come only once.
The good news is that almost everyone, no matter how busy, has
time to check his or her e-mail regularly. Your role is to bring
your business and your offer to them. Implementing effective
e-mail marketing will allow you to stay in touch with virtually
an unlimited number of prospects practically cost-free. When it
is done properly, you will be able to compel people to buy from
you even without visiting your web site!
Recently I interviewed Bob Leduc, a true E-mail Follow Up Master.
He was selling his manual for small business owners very
successfully -- without even having a web site. He did it
entirely via e-mail! Here is a transcript of our recent phone
conversation:
